The one question I constantly get from riders thinking about an extended motorcycle trip is: “what’s it going to cost?”

My answer?  – MORE THAN YOU THINK.

But, there are tools available and don’t by any means let that discourage you!   Half of the fun is managing costs, occasionally busting the budget and learning as you go.

I can tell you with some certainty that it’s going to cost about $100.0 per day.

How do I know?  Well, from three years of extended trips, thousands of miles, and millions of white lines down he highways of America.

Just before I left on my Western USA ride last year, I downloaded this trip calculator and just for laughs, changed the parameters to suit my riding plan and BANG! out came a number that I thought was incredibly high.  It can’t be right! I mumbled.  I’m not going to travel like Elvis or spend money on fancy meals or places to stay…………….

However, In retrospect, the planner was almost always 100% correct.  .

So, click the link above and download the file (NOTE – this file is hosted on Microsoft Skydrive and you may have to sign in to gain access) to your computer  and run a few what if scenarios.  You might be surprised on how much it will or won’t cost.

Remember – no matter what numbers you arrive at – KEEP RIDING!
