Monterey, CA to Oceanside, CA

June 1, 2010

Note: I’ve taken a few months off from writing about my trip across America in 2009. Be sure to visit the story archive to catch up on my trip thus far.

After taking a morning tour of the Aquarium I rode back to the hotel, packed the bike, and headed out. Today’s ride would be more than 400 miles of mostly interstate. My trip journal does not say much about the ride. From what I remember it was mostly ribbon of endless interstate and rural areas.

Grapes, grapes and more grapes.

I’ve already written about the Elkhorn Bar here. I’ll say it again; it was the best bar in 20,000 miles of riding. I absolutely love the place.

Dusty, dirty and mangled. That Gold Wing has seen some serious road time.

Somewhere north of Bakersfield, CA.

Passing the time and amusing myself.

Oil wells in the desert.

Beautiful California hills.

Coming through Los Angeles on I-5.

It was very, very intense.

Ahhhhhhhhhh, the beaches of La Jolla.

Old Town in San Diego.

Having a few cold refreshments at Cafe Coyote y Cantina

Watching tortillas being made by hand.

NEXT: A week in San Diego, CA
